I was diagnosed a Juvenile Onset Type 1 diabetic in October of 1985. Since then my life has been a roller coaster of dealing with highs and lows. Maintaining a good diet and keeping careful record and testing multiple times per day along with regular exercise. All this is essential to maintaining good health as a diabetic being mandatory not optional. I have found that as a brittle type 1 diabetic, meaning I have uncontrollable highs during the day and dangerous lows during the day and night which is becoming harder and harder to get under control of can be extremely challenging to keep up one's good health and spirits. My energy from day to day depends upon my sugar levels so I do everything in my power to obtain optimum levels. As a child and young adult I was extremely active and adventurous. I ran up to 5 miles a day, hiked, biked daily, did aerobics and weight lifting daily, went swing dancing on the weekends and eventually met my life long friend and eternal companion and had 2 beautiful sons with him. I have endured long through hard times. If I could change my life in some way, it would be to delete the diabetes.
